Alex Rodriguez Biography

Name: Alex Rodriguez

Position: Third Base

Team: Yankees

Age: 34

Overview: Alexander Emmanuel “Alex” Rodriguez (born July 27, 1975) is an American professional baseball player of Dominican parentage. Nicknamed “A-Rod“, he currently plays third base for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He previously played shortstop for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers.

Rodriguez is considered one of the best all–around baseball players of all time. He is the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, breaking the record Jimmie Foxx set in 1939.

In December 2007, Rodriguez and the Yankees agreed to a 10-year, $275 million contract. This contract was the richest contract in baseball history (breaking his previous record of $252 million).

In February 2009, after previously denying use of performance-enhancing drugs, including during a 2007 interview with Katie Couric on 60 Minutes, Rodriguez admitted to using steroids, saying he used them from 2001 to 2003 due to what he called “an enormous amount of pressure” to perform.

You can either forget his 2009 season, since he was injured for a portion of it, or you can be smart and give it another once over and realize the guy produced like an above average third baseman despite missing 14 games. Let’s face facts with facts: 12 straight years as a 100+ RBI producer, 13 years straight (minus 2009) of 100+run producer, he is always good for AT LEAST 25 home rus and 20 or more SB—with that kind of clout, that is about as close as anyone is going to get as a top premier first round selection. He won’t slow down in 2010, rather, he will be healthy…pass him and rue the day you did it.

Christine Arron (born September 13, 1973 in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe) is a track and field sprint athlete, competing internationally for France. She has run the fourth fastest time for the 100 metres in history, and holds the European record of 10.73 seconds.
She arrived in Metropolitan France in 1990 and first trained with Fernand Urtebise, who also coached 1997 world 400 m hurdles champion Stephane Diagana. She had a hip injury which kept her out of the 2001 World Championships. She was named 1998 European Women's Athlete of the Year, after winning the 100m at the European Athletics Championships, breaking the European record in the process.

In 2001, after a heavy training period in the U.S. with John Smith and the HSI group, she quit training for a year, saying she was physically exhausted from the experience. "It was hell. Every morning I wondered how I was going to put up with the burden of training." In June 2002 she gave birth to her first child.

Arron was also the last runner of the French 4x100 relay team which upset the heavy favourites USA to win the gold medal in the 2003 World Championships in Athletics held in Paris. She recovered from 3 m behind the new 100 m World Champion, Torri Edwards, to give to the Stade de France crowd an unpredicted joy.

She won the bronze medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

In August 2005 she won a bronze medal in the 100 meters and in the 200 meters at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics.

Arron is the holder of the fourth-fastest legal 100 m performance ever (10.73). Considering the controversy surrounding the performances of world record-holder, Florence Griffith-Joyner, many considered Arron's performance to be the 'true' world record. The next run considered a world record is Carmelita Jeter's 10.64 at Shanghai in 2009.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing she competed at the 100 metres sprint. In her first round heat she placed first in front of Lauryn Williams and Tahesia Harrigan in a time of 11.37 to advance to the second round. There she failed to qualify for the semi finals as her time of 11.36 was only the fourth time of her heat behind Debbie Ferguson, Oludamola Osayomi and Vida Anim, causing elimination

Boxer Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr.; January 17, 1942) is a former American boxer and three-time World Heavyweight Champion, who is widely considered one of the greatest heavyweight championship boxers of all time. As an amateur, he won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. After turning professional, he went on to become the first boxer to win the lineal heavyweight championship three times.

Originally known as Cassius Clay, Ali changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, subsequently converting to Sunni Islam in 1975 and more recently to Sufism. In 1967, Ali refused to be inducted into the U.S. military, based on his religious beliefs and opposition to the Vietnam War. He was arrested and found guilty on draft evasion charges, stripped of his boxing title, and his boxing license was suspended. He was not imprisoned, but did not fight again for nearly four years while his appeal worked its way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, where it was successful.

Nicknamed "The Greatest", Ali was involved in several historic boxing matches. Notable among these are three with rival Joe Frazier and one with George Foreman, whom he beat by knockout to win the world heavyweight title for the second time. He suffered only five losses (four decisions and one TKO by retirement from the bout) with no draws in his career, while amassing 56 wins (37 knockouts and 19 decisions).Ali was well known for his unorthodox fighting style, which he described as "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee", and employing techniques such as the rope-a-dope.[4] He was also known for his pre-match hype, where he would "trash talk" opponents on television and in person some time before the match, often with rhymes. These personality quips and idioms, along with an unorthodox fighting technique, made him a cultural icon. In later life, Ali developed Parkinson's disease. In 1999, Ali was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC.

Hope Solo Bio & Pics

U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper Hope Amelia Solo was born on July 30, 1981 in Richland, Washington. At an early age, Hope developed a love for athletics, enjoying basketball, snowboarding, and beach volleyball in addition to soccer. From 1996 to 1999, Hope competed as a forward for the Richland High School Bombers. Over her high school career, she scored a total of 109 goals, including two in the State Championship game in 1999. She was named a two-time Parade All-American.

In 1999, Hope went to play for the University of Washington Huskies where she switched to the goalkeeper position. Hope quickly adapted to her new defensive role and was named a four-time All-Pac-10 athlete and a three-time NSCAA All-American. As a senior, she was the only goalkeeper in contention for the prestigious Hermann Award, and left the Huskies’ as Washington’s all-time leader in shutouts (18), saves (325), and GAA (1.02).

In 2000, after having played on multiple U.S. Junior National soccer teams, Hope moved up to the full U.S. National Team. In 2003, she was drafted to the WUSA’s Philadelphia Charge. Following her time with the Charge, she played for Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC of Göteborg, Sweden in the Swedish Premier Division in 2004 and for Olympique Lyonnais in the French First Division in 2005.

In 2005, Hope was promoted to the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Team and started 7 matches, earning 7 shutouts. In 2006, she played in 18 matches and her 1,054 minutes streak of preventing a goal from the run of play led the team to a 14-0-4 season. In 2007, Solo started 15 games for a team record of 13-0-2, allowing only 8 goals. She also started four games in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In 2008, Hope had 9 shutouts in 16 starts leading up to the Olympics, playing in the Four Nations Tournament, the Algarve Cup, and the Peace Queen Cup. In Beijing, the United States’ team fought hard in the qualifying round and eventually advanced to the Gold Medal match against Brazil. The Gold Medal match was a defensive showdown. Solo was able to fend off Marta and the aggressive Brazilian offense, earning a shutout. The U.S. won 1-0 in extra time to win the Gold Medal.

In September 2008, Solo was drafted to the St. Louis Athletica in the newly formed Women’s Professional Soccer league debuting in 2009.
